It is the worlds largest free possession ownership website and allows individuals and businesses to register the details of their possessions or company assets on the MEND database system. In the event of loss theft any item can be flagged on the global stolen property checking service CheckMEND.

If the item is then attempted to be sold it can be identified as stolen by any prospective buyer. In the United Kingdom the item is also placed on the UK National Law Enforcement stolen goods database viewable via the Police search portal the NMPR .
